About Mark

I’m Mark, a Mountain Leader (Summer) and an accredited Duke of Edinburgh Assessor for Bronze, Silver and Gold, delivering both training and assessment. I’ve been working as an assessor since 2012, supporting people of all abilities across the UK.

My love of the outdoors began in childhood through the Scouts and Venture Scouts, where I first discovered adventure, teamwork and the satisfaction that comes from being outside in challenging environments. That early experience shaped a lifelong passion for the mountains.

I’m known for being calm, caring, patient and supportive, with a reassuring presence that helps people feel safe and confident. My guiding style is built around safety, expertise, wellbeing, adventure and skill-building, and I enjoy sharing knowledge, particularly navigation and mountain skills, to help others grow in confidence and independence.

I’ve led and supported numerous mountain journeys, including major routes such as the Coast to Coast Path and the National Three Peaks, in a wide range of weather conditions. Teaching map skills and helping people understand the landscape is a key part of how I guide.

Personally, I’ve completed over 3,000 mountain walks, travelled extensively in winter mountain conditions, and walked 35+ long-distance footpaths, including the West Highland Way, Pennine Way, Cumbria Way and Dales Way. These experiences continue to shape my practical, experience-led approach.

With over 30 years of outdoor experience, I guide with confidence, professionalism and a genuine desire to help people enjoy the outdoors safely while developing the skills to continue adventuring long after the walk has ended.
